About weight conversions
Weight and mass conversions are among the most frequently needed, especially between the metric system (grams, kilograms, metric tonnes) and the imperial system (ounces, pounds, stones). While mass and weight are technically different concepts in physics, for everyday purposes the terms are used interchangeably.
One kilogram equals exactly 2.20462 pounds. One pound equals 16 ounces. The stone, used primarily in the UK and Ireland for body weight, equals 14 pounds. Troy ounces are used for precious metals and differ from standard avoirdupois ounces.
